About the Role:
Horton & Mendez is seeking a bilingual Pre-Litigation Case Manager to manage an active caseload of personal injury matters through settlement, keeping cases moving and clients informed at every stage. This person is the connective tissue between the client, the attorney, and the many moving parts of an active case — keeping documentation complete, communication consistent, and cases progressing efficiently. The right candidate is organized, proactive, and committed to delivering a high standard of service to clients navigating a difficult time.
What You’ll Do:
- Manage a caseload of personal injury matters, keeping cases moving and clients informed at every stage
- Communicate regularly and compassionately with clients — providing updates, answering questions, and offering clear guidance throughout the process
- Collect, organize, review, and summarize medical records, bills, and supporting evidence
- Handle all aspects of insurance claims related to auto accidents, including verification, correspondence, and follow-through
- Prepare demands and provide comprehensive support to attorneys on case strategy and settlement
- Prepare settlement packages, execute client disbursements, and manage case liens and medical bill reduction requests
- Maintain accurate, well-organized case files and documentation in the firm’s case management system
What We’re Looking For:
- 2+ years of Case Management experience, pre-litigation personal injury experience strongly preferred
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a high-volume caseload independently and without close supervision
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable corresponding with clients, insurance carriers, and medical providers
- Trustworthy, discreet, and detail-oriented; takes ownership of their work and follows through consistently
- Proactive and solutions-oriented, with strong critical thinking skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe; comfortable learning and navigating new software systems quickly
- Experience with Filevine or similar legal case management software strongly preferred

About the Role:
Horton & Mendez is seeking an experienced Pre Litigation Attorney to manage a caseload of personal injury matters in the pre litigation stage. This role owns each file from injury to settlement or escalation to our litigation team, bringing seasoned judgment to case strategy, demand preparation, and negotiation with insurance carriers. The right person has deep personal injury experience, writes persuasively, and communicates with clients with empathy and clarity.
What You’ll Do:
- Evaluate new matters for liability, damages, and coverage, and set early case strategy and timelines
- Serve as the primary attorney contact for pre litigation clients, setting clear expectations and keeping them informed
- Direct evidence development and oversee medical records and bills, analyzing treatment, causation, and future care needs
- Draft persuasive demand packages with clear liability analysis and a damages narrative that tells each client’s story
- Negotiate settlements directly with adjusters and advise clients on offers, lien reductions, and net recovery
- Track statutes of limitation and critical deadlines, and make timely recommendations on files that should move to litigation

What we are looking for:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and an active North Carolina bar license in good standing
- 2+ years of personal injury experience, with a strong focus on Personal Injury, pre litigation claims
- Proven track record negotiating settlements with insurance carriers
- Clear, persuasive legal writing and a confident, professional presence with clients and adjusters
- Highly organized and detail oriented, comfortable managing a substantial caseload against cycle time and settlement goals
- Trustworthy and discreet with sensitive client and case information
Bonus Points:
- Experience with Filevine or similar case management software
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Familiarity with preparing files for a smooth transition to litigation
- Experience with pre suit mediation or early neutral evaluation
- Experience with complex and high value claims

- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
